Is the audition scary? The audition process is not meant to be scary. All MCC directors are child-centered. They try to make the audition as stress-free as possible for young singers. Audition expectations grow as choir members matriculate to more senior choirs.
What about school conflicts? MCC expects its singers to manage their time so that school work doesn't suffer. Indeed, singing in MCC helps students learn how to manage their time effectively! We generally do not expect a singer to miss rehearsals or performances because of school. That said, there are occasions when there is a conflict-MCC members often have leads in school musicals, play in school bands and orchestras, and are otherwise active at school. The general rule is that school comes first. Depending on a choir member's abilities and scheduling conflicts, a choir member may be kept from performing at a specific concert.
What is the registration procedure? Registrations are processed on a first-come, first-served basis and MCC keeps wait lists for full choirs. Register early to avoid disappointment.
How much is Tuition and when is it due? Tuition is charged on a school year basis and ranges from $400 (for 1-3 graders) to $500 (for all others). This works out to less than $15 per week of instruction. A deposit of $50 is payable with registration papers. The balance is payable in accordance with the registration papers and in any event prior to the first day of choir. In addition to tuition, new choir members pay a one-time $35 registration fee.
What responsibilities do parents have? MCC expects parents to ensure that choir members attend rehearsals and performances. We also expect parents to be active volunteers-we couldn't work with 400 young singers without volunteers! If you chose not to volunteer you will be charged an annual "volunteer waiver" fee.
What is MCC's refund policy? Tuition deposits are not refunded, and no refunds are given after the first day of choir.
Where does MCC rehearse? All MCC choirs rehearse at the Milwaukee Youth Arts Center. Prelude Choir and Concert Choir have additional rehearsal locations throughout the greater Milwaukee Area. Click here to find a map with all of our rehearsal sites and get directions.
