![MCC logo [Milwaukee Children's Choir logo]](images/MCCLogo.gif) Celebrating our 14th seasonThe Curriculum
The Milwaukee Children’s Choir is a special learning environment designed
to provide a rich and rewarding experience for each child. The repertoire is
varied and is drawn from the masters: Bach, Schubert, Britten,
Vaughan-Williams, Kodály, and Copland, but also music from all cultures,
including popular, folk and patriotic music. Concepts include:
- The elements of music - rhythm, melody, harmony, dynamics, form,
style.
- Musical skills, including singing, theory, sight-reading, listening,
and analysis.
- Vocal development to the fullest potential through posture, breath,
tone production and diction.
Mission
The Mission of the Milwaukee Children’s Choir is to give children
exceptional choral music instruction and performance opportunities that
foster creativity, personal expression and social growth.
Vision
The Milwaukee Children’s Choir makes a difference in the lives of children
and the greater Milwaukee community by:
- Striving for continued excellence in choral music
- Achieving artistic prominence locally and beyond
- Cultivating diversity
- Reaching out to children in communities underserved by the arts
- Collaborating with other arts organizations
- Bringing recognition to Milwaukee and its arts community
The Milwaukee Children’s Choir is open to children of all races, religions
and economic backgrounds. Financial assistance is available.
Commitment to school music programs
The success of the Milwaukee Children’s Choir is dependent, in large part,
on the support of music teachers and choral directors in the Milwaukee area.
MCC singers should be leaders in their school music ensembles and are
expected to be active participants in their school choir if one is available.
An exception is made when the child must choose between the school’s instrumental and vocal
music programs.
