Joyal is pleased to be a part of the artistic staff of the Milwaukee Children's Choir. This marks a return to the area of children's choral music with which he began his career in Milwaukee over thirty years ago as Conductor of the Wisconsin Conservatory Children's Chorus!

Mr. Joyal is recently retired as Director of Choral Activities at both West Allis Central and West Allis Nathan Hale High Schools. He spent the previous 21 years as an elementary music specialist in the West Allis-West Milwaukee School District, including a stint directing an elementary level All-City Honors Chorus for the district.

He also serves as Director of Music and Organist for St. Luke's Lutheran Church in Greendale, and is Conductor of the Milwaukee Liederkranz, a German male chorus which he has led for a total of 16 years, winning eight state Kommers championships during that time. He has conducted the Wisconsin SängerBezirk at three National SängerFests and for the Centennial celebration of the WSB at the Waukesha Expo Center. He served as accompanist for the recent NASB. (Nord-Amerikanischer Sängerbund) National SängerFest held in Milwaukee in June, 2013. He is also Founder and Music Director for the local chamber choir Canticum Novum

Previous positions also include serving as Conductor/Music Director for The Bach Chamber Choir and Orchestra of Milwaukee, The Suburban Singers, The Madison Boychoir, the D.A.N.K. Folk Singers of Milwaukee, and the German-American Kinderchor of Milwaukee. These choruses have been featured with such notable musicians as The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra, Milwaukee Youth Symphony Orchestra, The Manhattan Philharmonic Orchestra (in both Avery Fisher Hall and Carnegie Hall), John Denver, Maureen McGovern, and Andy Williams, and with such acclaimed conductors as Kenneth Schermerhorn, Lukas Foss, Zdenek Macal, John Rutter, Margaret Hawkins, and Margery Deutsch.

Mr. Joyal holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree in voice and piano from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire and a Master of Music degree in Choral Conducting from the Wisconsin Conservatory of Music in Milwaukee. He studied choral conducting with Margaret Hawkins and Morris D. Hayes and orchestral conducting with Daniel Forlano and Manuel Prestamo. He also has coached with Robert Page, John Rutter, Paul Salamunovich, and Roger Wagner and was once a Guest Conductor with the Gregg Smith Singers. In addition, he has served as an accompanist for musicians throughout southeastern Wisconsin and as Music Director for a number of regional theatrical productions. He resides in West Allis, Wisconsin with his extremely talented wife, Lis, an accomplished flute player and seamstress. They have four children, ages 19-26.
